Track and Field Prepares for MAC Championships

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University track and field team will travel to Athens, Ohio to compete in the 2005 Mid-American Conference Championships. The meet is set to begin Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the men's hammer throw.
Freshman Teniqua Sutton (Westbury, N.J.) is poised to lead the way for the Thundering Herd. Sutton set a new Marshall record this season in the triple jump going a distance of 39 feet 11.5 inches. She sets in fifth place in the conference going into the weekend. Sutton will also compete in the long jump and the 4x100-meter relay team.
Joining Sutton on the relay team will be seniors Ashli Creal (Chicago, Ill) and Taneshia Becton (Pennsauken, N.J.) and freshman Terryn Webb (Beckley, W.Va.).
The 4x400-meter relay team will include Creal, Webb and juniors Stephanie Eastman (Spencer, W.Va.) and Xavier Richards (Kingston, Jamaica). Both relay teams should make an impact at the MAC Championships.
Kristin Herron (Frankfort, Ky.) should have a strong weekend in the hurdle events along with teammate Danyell Garner (Logan, W.Va).
In field events Stacie Belzer (Glassboro, N.J.) and Rachel Blankenship (Hurricane, W.Va.) are expected to have a big weekend in the discus and shot put, respectively.
Marshall qualified for several prestigious meets during the regular season including Texas Relays and Penn Relays.
