5/19/2005

BUFFALO, N.Y. ? The Thundering Herd baseball team will finish up its 2005 season along with its tenure in the Mid-American Conference with a three-game series this weekend in Buffalo.

Friday?s opener is set for a 3 p.m. start while the games on Saturday and Sunday are set for 1 p.m. start times.

The Herd enters its final weekend with a 16-31 overall record and an 8-13 MAC record. In its last game, the Herd salvaged the final game of a three-game set against conference-leading Ball State.

Ball State took last Friday?s opener by a score of 17-4 before coming back on Saturday with a 9-0 win. On Sunday, pitcher Chris Koutsavlis (Pittsburgh, PA) shut down the Cardinals as Marshall cruised to a 7-3 win. Aaron Jamieson (Lindsay, Ont.) led the offense in the game, going a perfect 4-4 from the plate.

This weekend will also mark the final series in the careers of Marshall?s five senior players: Joe Glevenyak (West Palm Beach, FL), Brad Helm (Downingtown, PA), Mike Marchyshyn (Markham, Ont.), Josh McConnell (Phenix City, AL) and Marshall Murray (Walnut Creek, CA).

Entering the final series, Aaron Jamieson sits atop many of the offensive categories for the Thundering Herd. His .324 batting average and 59 hits are team highs. Joe Glevenyak has finished his Marshall career on a high note, batting a career-high .319 with a team-leading 32 runs batted in and eight home runs.

Buffalo comes into the series with a record of 16-30-1 and 2-14-1 in the MAC. The Bulls stopped a five-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over Niagara on Tuesday. Prior to that, the Bulls lost all three games of a weekend series to Central Michigan and also fell in games to Duquesne and Toledo.

Mike Folli leads the Buffalo offense with a .349 average. His 60 hits and 29 walks also tops the team. James Kingsley lead the team in the power categories, registering 12 doubles, 12 home runs and 47 RBI?s, all team bests.

Last season, the Herd swept Buffalo in three games in Huntington. Marshall outscored the Bulls, 22-7 in that series. The sweep also gave Marshall a commanding 10-4 lead in the all-time series.

Herdzone will have updates on the progress of the team throughout the weekend.
