Men's Golf Finishes Ninth At MAC Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Marshall Thundering Herd ended its 2004-05 season with a ninth place finish at the 2005 MAC Championships in Columbus.
The Herd finished with a four-round team score of 1192 (287-300-295-290) at the Medallion Country Club.
Kent State won the tournament with a total of 1119 (271-285-282-281), 19 strokes better than second place finisher Eastern Michigan, who ended the four-round tournament at 1138. Two Golden Flashes, Ryan Yip and Tommy Wiegand, shared the individual portion of the MAC Championships with a total of 277. It marked the first time the conference has seen same team-co-champions since 1970.
Marshall's top finisher at the tournament was freshman Trent Schambach (Glen Dale, W.Va.), who finished in a tie for 14th with a score of 289 (70-70-74-75). Sophomore Shawn Warren (Windham, Maine) was the Herd's next best finisher with a total of 290 (71-75-68-76), good for a tie for 19th place.
Other Marshall scores from the weekend were:
Chris Tipper (Parkersburg, W.Va.): 77-78-76-69=300, T-40
Brandon Katzeff (Uniontown, Pa.): 72-79-77-72=300, T-40
Brad Tweel (Huntington, W.Va.): 74-77 81-74=306, T-46
Today's round was the final event as a member of the Mid-American Conference. The Herd will move to Conference USA beginning in the fall of 2005.
