LEXINGTON, Ky.- Marshall's track and field team closed out the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky. this afternoon. The meet, which started Friday night, was hosted by the University of Kentucky.
In Friday night's competition Britani Burke (Proctorville, Ohio) placed 20th in the weight throw with a distance of 46'06.25. Finishing four places behind Burke was Stacie Belzer (Glassboro, N.J.) with a toss of 43'11.25. Also competing in the event were Nicole Kyle (Keyser, W.Va.) and Rachel Bilek (Hebron, Ind.).
Quinnyana Brown (Amherst, N.Y.) was the only Marshall competitor in the triple jump. She placed 13th with a jump of 36'01.25.
LaTricia Jones (Spartanburg, S.C.) opened Saturday's competition with a 10th place finish in the shot put with her throw of 42'04.75. Just .75 inches behind Jones in 11th place was Rachel Blankenship (Hurricane, W.Va.) with her toss of 42'04". Rounding out the Herd competitors in the shot put were Jessica Pissini (Hermitage, Pa.), Danyell Garner (Logan, W.Va.) and Tarrin Scott (Bellefontaine, Ohio) in 21st, 24th and 26th places.
In the long jump Scott and Brown turned in great performances with jumps of 16'07.5 and 16'03.25 for 16th and 18th places. Garner also jumped and finished in 21st with a distance15'05.5.
Tekisha Martin missed running in the 60m hurdles finals by just a twentieth of a second with her time of 9.39. Overall she placed 19th in the event. Breanna Jones (Columbia, S.C.) finished 25th and Garner 32nd.
