HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall men's soccer goalkeeper Brad Kennedy (Jr., Lewisburg, W.Va.) has been honored as Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Week following his stellar play in net during the Florida International and South Carolina matches last week. He shares the distinction with Florida International goalkeeper Kyle Thomas.
For the week, Kennedy posted a 0.64 goals against average in 140 minutes of work. He made six saves while stepping up as a big presence in the box. Kennedy has allowed just one goal in 201 minutes this season (0.45 GAA).
Kennedy allowed just one goal - on a penalty kick - in his two appearances last week. He earned his first career start for the Saturday match against No. 11 South Carolina and helped the Herd to a 2-1 victory as he earned his first collegiate win. USC is the second highest-ranked opponent Marshall has defeated in men's soccer, behind only a 2-1 overtime win at No. 2 Duke in 1996.
Wednesday, Kennedy stepped in at the 40-minute mark in the first half and stopped four shots while shutting out Florida International for 50 minutes.
Marshall plays host to No. 18 Kentucky at 7 p.m. Wednesday on Senior Night at Sam Hood Field.
