HUNTINGTON - The Marshall Thundering Herd volleyball team defeated the University of Houston 3-0 (30-15, 30-23, 30-21) at the Cam Henderson Center Friday night.
The Herd (15-9, 7-3 C-USA) earned its first home sweep of the season with and a win on CSTV with multifaceted performance against Houston (15-10, 6-4 C-USA) from its offense and defense.
"This was a lot, felt a lot like last year playing at home," Marshall head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "We played at an awesome level at home and our opponent didn't quite reach theirs."
Marshall recorded four players with three or more blocks as Uche Ndubisi (Indianapolis, Ind.) led all performers with five. Kelly-Anne Billingy (Trincity, Trinidad), Christin Bimberg (Schwerin, Germany) and Chelsea Lazar (Palm Harbor, Fla.) added three each.
Billingy posted a match-high 17 kills and four aces. Defensively for the Herd, Maggie Arias (Indianapolis, Ind.) had her ninth straight match with double digit digs with 18, seven of which came in game three.
The all-around effort by Marshall delivers its fifth win in the past six matches. The Herd's next match will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington.
