Marshall Volleyball to Take on Houston in C-USA Quarterfinals

HOUSTON - The Marshall Thundering Herd volleyball team will begin its defense of the Conference USA Tournament Championship against the Houston Cougars at Houston's Hofheinz Pavilion on Friday at 6 p.m.
Marshall (20-10, 12-4 C-USA), the tournament's No.2 seed, has won six of its last seven matches entering the tournament. The Herd is 3-0 all-time against Houston (18-14, 8-8 C-USA) and this season the two clubs faced each other at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington with the Herd on top 3-0.
Houston comes into the match after defeating rival Rice 3-0 in the opening round of the tournament. Houston has won three of its last eight matches coming into the match-up on Friday.
Coming into the season The Herd and the Cougars were voted one-two in the C-USA preseason coaches' poll and will be facing each other in a rematch of the 2005 C-USA Championship match. Last season the two teams fought in a back and forth battle for the C-USA crown, with the Herd outlasting Houston 3-2.
