Men's Golf Begins Spring Season With 2006 RoadRunner Intercollegiate

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Marshall men's golf team begins its first spring tournament Monday afternoon at the 2006 RoadRunner Intercollegiate, an event hosted by the University of Texas-San Antonio.

The 54-hole tournament takes place at Oak Hills Country Club, the former site of the PGA Tour's Texas Open and the site of a SBC Senior Tour Event. Oak Hills also hosted the 2001 USGA Junior Amateur.

Thirty-six holes will be played on Monday, with the final 18 taking place on Tuesday on the par-71, 6,700-yard course.

Junior Shawn Warren (Windham, Maine) leads Marshall's contingent into the RoadRunner field. Warren led the Herd in the fall campaign with a stroke average of 74.25 and had the highest finish of his Marshall career in October when he tied for 3rd at the Memphis Intercollegiate. Other Herd golfers that will participate in Monday and Tuesday's competition is sophomore Chris Tipper (Parkersburg, W.Va.), sophomore Matt Scytkowski (South Hadley, Mass.), sophomore Jonathan Pepe (McKeesport, Pa.), and junior Brandon Katzeff (Uniontown, Pa.).

Stephen F. Austin, Wichita State, Louisiana-Monroe, Texas-Pan American, Sam Houston State, the College of Charleston, Nebraska, Lamar, New Orleans, Rice, DePaul, Illinois State, Northern Iowa, Baylor, the Naval Academy, and the host, Texas-San Antonio, will all join the Thundering Herd for the tournament.
