CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. - The Jacksonville Dolphins won the 7th Annual El Diablo Intercollegiate with a team total of 885, 20 strokes better than second-place Charleston Southern, who finished with a score of 905. The Dolphins' Duncan Stewart also claimed medalist honors with a 9-under, 207 (70-68-69), six strokes better than Charleston Southern's Shawn Hall, who finished at 213 (70-73-70).
Stewart's 207 betters the 54-hole tournament record by two strokes, a record that was set by Martin Laird of Colorado State in 2003. His 36-hole total of 138 also tied Kenny Cook of Ball State for an El Diablo 36-hole record. Cook set his mark in 2003.
The host Thundering Herd finished in 10th place, with a team total of 926. Sophomore Shawn Warren (Windham, Maine) led the way for Marshall with a 219 (74-69-76), which was good for a tie for fourth place.
The Herd's other scorers were Trent Schambach (Glen Dale, W.Va.), who finished in a tie for 27th place with a 231 (77-73-81), Jonathan Pepe (McKeesport, Pa.), who ended the tournament in a tie for 69th place with a 240 (78-80-82), Brandon Katzeff (Uniontown, Pa.), who carded a 241 (82-82-77, T-75), and Chris Tipper (Parkersburg, W.Va.), who finished with a 246 (82-77-87, T-96).
Marshall's Nathan Kinker (Barboursville, W.Va.) and Andy Foster (Vinton, Va.) competed as individuals for the Thundering Herd at the El Diablo. Kinker finished with a 247 (86-83-78, 98), and Foster ended with a 251 (78-87-86, T103).
