HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - After posting a doubleheader sweep over No. 25 James Madison, the Marshall baseball team (10-11, 0-3 C-USA) steps back into league play this weekend with three games against UCF (16-12, 0-0) at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, W.Va. The teams play at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon on Sunday. The games will be broadcast by WMUL 88.1 FM and online at www.marshall.edu/wmul. WRVC 930 AM will carry the Sunday contest.

Marshall plays the first of its home C-USA contests at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston, W.Va., this weekend. The park, which opened last season and seats 4,500, is home to the West Virginia Power, a single-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Marshall is coming off two wins over No. 25 James Madison Wednesday, including a comeback win in the ninth inning of the second game. It marked the Thundering Herd's first wins over a ranked team since Feb. 22, 1995, after its two wins over No. 25 James Madison Wednesday. MU's last win over a ranked squad ironically was at then-No. 19 James Madison in 1995, when the Herd won, 9-6, in Harrisonburg, Va.

Tommy Johnson (So., Gaithersburg, Md.) was a big contributor to the two wins. After missing the first 19 games with an injury, the sophomore catcher was back in the lineup against James Madison and had two solid games, going 4-for-6 with a home run and five RBI in the doubleheader. He hit a three-run blast in the first game and had a bases-loaded walk in the second to bring home the winning run.

Adam Frederick (Sr., Franklin, Pa.) sits five hits shy of the Marshall school record entering this weekend. With 203 career hits, he is five shy of David Colangelo's record of 208. He also is just 22 at bats shy of Colangelo's record of 630.

After falling, 5-2, at home to Stetson Tuesday, UCF comes to Charleston with a 16-12 record. UCF had its bye week in C-USA play last week and traveled to TCU, where the Golden Knights won two of three games. UCF is led offensively by Ryan Williams, who boasts a team-best .346 batting average. Steve Stropp leads the team in home runs (4) and RBI (19) while posting a .323 batting average.

The UCF pitching staff has been excellent, with a 3.69 team ERA. Tim Bascom leads the team with a 3-2 record and 1.50 ERA. Dominic Petracca has been lights out in the bullpen, not allowing a run in 15 appearances while earning seven saves.

Tickets for the games this weekend, as well as all of the Thundering Herd's C-USA contests at Appalachian Power Park, are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 1-800-THE-HERD or logging on to www.herdzone.com.
