HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Brendan Murphy (Jr., Chattanooga, Tenn.) has been recognized as the Conference USA Hitter of the Week after putting up big numbers over the weekend against Buffalo while leading Marshall to wins in three of the four contests. Murphy shares the honor with Rice shortstop Josh Rodriguez. He also is the Thundering Herd's first Conference USA player of the week honoree this season.
Murphy went 6-for-13 (.462) in the Buffalo series with two doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI. He had at least two RBI in every game and Sunday had five RBI in the win over the Bulls. Murphy scored eight runs in the four games while racking up 17 total bases, a 1.308 slugging percentage and .588 on base percentage. He left only one runner on base in his 17 plate appearances.
Murphy hit a two-run home run in the series opener, then clubbed a three-run shot in the third game and another three-run homer in the final game. He now leads the team with three home runs and 16 RBI.
The Thundering Herd is back in action at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Kentucky.
