Herd Track and Field Prepares for Meet at EKU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall Track and Field teams rejoin after spending last weekend at two separate meets at the EKU Invitational. The meet will be held on Eastern Kentucky's track, Samuels Track, on Friday, April 21, starting at 4:00 p.m.
Marshall last competed at the Sea Ray Relays and the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday, April 15.
Competing for Marshall in the discus are athletes Stacie Belzer (Glassboro, N.J.), Brittani Burke (Proctorville, Ohio), LaTricia Jones (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Jessica Pissini (Hermitage, Pa.). Jones and Pissini are the only two also competing in the shot put. Rachel Blankenship (Hurricane, W.Va.) will compete in the shot put as well.
The two Thundering Herd athletes who are participating in jumping events are also sprinting for the Herd. Quinnyana Brown (Amherst, N.Y.) is entered in all three jumping events, long, triple and high, and also the 100m dash. Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (Houston, Texas) will run the 100m and also jump in the long jump. Last week in the long jump Shepard-Hall earned a place at the NCAA East Regional meet.
Earning the title as busiest Marshall athlete at the meet is Danyell Garner (Logan, W.Va.). Garner will participate in five events, the 200m, 100mH, long jump, shot put and the javelin throw. Kwema Phillander (Siparia, Trinidad) will also throw the javelin.
Tekisha Martin (Michigan City, Ind.) will run the 100m, 200m and the 100mH. Breanna Jones (Columbia, S.C.) will run in the 100m and 100mH with Martin, but will also run in the 400mH. Karmen Collins (Slicklerville, N.J.) will run in the 100mH and 400mH as well.
Strictly entered into sprinting events are Cathy Morris (Erie, Pa.), Carmisa Morris (Greenville, S.C.), Katina Morris (Erie, Pa.), Xavier Richards (Kingston, Jamaica), Reshundra Smiley (Modesto, Calif), Terryn Webb (Beckley, W.Va.) and Zedmalia Wolfe (Toronto, Ontario, Canada). The events include the 100m, 200m and 400m.
Distance events that will include Marshall runners are the 800m, 1500m, 3000m and 5000m. Stephanie Achilles (Deptford, N.J.), Emily Bailey (Kenova, W.Va.), Marian Brooks (Flat Top, W.Va.), Anna Chaney (Huntington, W.Va.), Stephanie Eastman (Spencer, W.Va.), Hannah Kovarik (Hurricane, W.Va.), Rebecca Minardi (Dayton, Ohio) and Sarah Sturgill (Hurricane, W.Va.) will all run in the various distance events.
