Marshall Track and Field Competes at Miami Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall Thundering Herd track and field team will be traveling to Oxford, Ohio to compete at Miami (Ohio) in the Miami Invitational. More than 600 athletes are slated to compete over two days, Friday and Saturday, with the women's hammer throw kicking off competition Friday at 3:30 p.m. Nineteen additional track and field events are scheduled for Saturday beginning with the discus and 5,000 meters at 11 a.m.

Marshall is one of 17 women's teams competing in the Miami Invitational, and the field includes schools for Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, Big East and Horizon League. Participating schools are as follows: Ball State, Buffalo, Buffalo State, Butler, Cedarville, Detroit-Mercy, Eastern Kentucky, Hillsdale, IPFW, John Carroll, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio, Shawnee State, Valparaiso and Wheeling Jesuit.

Four Herd athletes will be competing in the hammer throw on Friday afternoon. Stacie Belzer (Glassboro, N.J.), Brittani Burke (Proctorville, Ohio), Nicole Kyle (Keyser, W.Va.) and Jessica Pissini (Hermitage, Pa.) have all thrown the hammer in previous meets this season.

Other field events that the Herd will be entering are the shot put, discus, javelin, long jump and triple jump.

Marshall will run in the 3000m steeple chase for the first time this season. Running will be Stephanie Achilles (Deptford, N.J.) and Anna Chaney (Huntington, W.Va.). The Herd will also run in the 4x400m for the first time this season. The five potential runners for the relay are Katina Morris (Erie, Pa.), Breanna Jones (Columbia, S.C.), Stephanie Eastman (Spencer, W.Va.), Xavier Richards (Kingston, Jamaica) and Zedmalia Wolfe (Toronto, ON, Canada).

Carmisa Morris (Greenville, S.C.) is going to be trying to come home the 200m champion as she did at the Ohio Invitational last week. Morris will also run on the 4x100m relay team, the same relay that took home first place at Ohio.

Members of the track team will also be competing in the 100m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 100mHH and 400mIH.
