OXFORD, Ohio- The Miami Invitational, hosted by Miami (Ohio) University, got off to a wet start on Friday evening, but was able to get through then entire meet on Saturday. When the final event was scored the Marshall track and field team finished tied for 11th place with Butler University. The Herd earned 13 points at the meet.
Scoring points for the Herd were runners Xavier Richards (Kingston, Jamaica), Karmen Collins (Slicklerville, N.J.), Breanna Jones (Columbia, S.C.), the 4x400 relay team comprised of Jones, Katina Morris (Erie, Pa), Stephanie Eastman (Spencer, W.Va.) and Richards. Field athletes Stacie Belzer (Glassboro, N.J.) and Kwema Phillander (Sipiria, Trinidad) scored points in the hammer throw and javelin.
Richards earned her points for the Herd in the 400m by running a 57.98. Her time earned her sixth place. Cathy Morris (Erie, Pa.) also ran in the event and finished 12th with a time of 1:03.90.
In shorter sprinting events Carmisa Morris (Greenville, S.C.) placed 13th with a 13.25 in the 100m. Quinnyana Brown (Amherst, N.Y.) finished in 16th with a time 13.44 in the same event. In the 200m Katina Morris finished 14th and Zedmalia Wolfe (Toronto, ON, Canada) ran a 27.28 for 16th.
Collins earned one point for the Herd in the 100mH event by placing eighth with a time of 15.30. Danyell Garner (Logan, W.Va.) finished in 16th with a time of 17.83.
In the 400mH Jones scored three points with her sixth place time of 1:05.35. Collins also ran in the 400mH and finished with a time of 1:09.42.
In the distance events Eastman finished 12th in the 800m with a time of 2:21.05. Terryn Webb (Beckley, W.Va.), Fabiola Gonzales (Huntington, W.Va.) and Anna Chaney (Huntington, W.Va.) ran to finishes of 36, 37 and 40, respectively.
Stephanie Achilles (Deptford, N.J.) was the lone runner in the 1500m and finished in 34th place.
Hannah Kovarik (Hurricane, W.Va.) ran a time of 18:17.35 in the 5000m for a 13th place finish. Emily Bailey (Kenova, W.Va.), Rebecca Minardi (Dayton, Ohio) and Sarah Sturgill (Hurricane, W.Va.) finished in 28th, 33rd and 34th places.
The 4x400m relay finished fifth with a time of 4:02.50, earning fifth place and four points.
In the hammer throw Belzer scored points with a heave of 150-02. Throwing just a foot short of Belzer was Brittani Burke (Proctorville, Ohio). Jessica Pissini (Hermitage, Pa.) finished in 17th, while Nicole Kyle (Keyser, W.Va.) earned 22nd.
Brown jumped to a distance of 16-07.25 in the long jump earning her 15th place. Garner also jumped in the event and recorded a jump of 15-06.00 for 20th place.
In the discus throw Burke earned the highest place for the Herd by tossing the discus 125-03 for 10th place. Belzer finished in 14th and Pissini in 17th.
Rachel Blankenship (Hurricane, W.Va.) earned 11th place in the shot put with a heave of 39-04.00. LaTricia Jones (Spartanburg, S.C.) was just a few places behind Blankenship in 14th with her throw of 38-05.50. Pissini finished in 20th with her throw of 36-07.75.
Marshall will run again on April 14 in Knoxville, Tenn. at the Sea Ray Relays.
