HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Former Marshall basketball standout turned track star, Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (Houston, Texas) will compete in the NCAA East Regional Championship at North Carolina A&T State University on May 25-27. Shepard-Hall is the first Marshall long jumper ever to advance to a regional meet.
Since joining the track team at the conclusion of her basketball career, Shepard-Hall has earned first place in the event in three out of the five meets she has competed in, had two regional qualifying jumps and was part of the 4x100m relay team that broke the Marshall record with a time of 46.78 at the Conference USA Championship.
Her longest leap of the season, 20-03.00, came at the Conference USA Championship on May 12, where she earned second place and broke the Marshall long jump record of 20-01.27 set by Erica West in 1990.
The top five finishers in each event will automatically advance to the national championships. Finishers six through eight are awarded at large bids depending on their place in the national descending order list.
The long jump is slated for a noon start on Friday, May 27, with the trials followed by the finals. Live results and meet information will be available at www.ncataggies.com or at www.ncaasports.com.
