GREENVILLE, N.C. - Marshall's Kelly-Anne Billingy, Christin Bimberg and Stephanie Cahill were a tough trio to tame at the East Carolina Classic. The three Thundering Herd (8-6, 1-0 C-USA) players helped lead their team to a 3-0 (30-23, 30-19, 30-19) win over Wisconsin - Green Bay (5-6) in the final day of the tournament.
For the second time during the weekend Cahill produced a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs while converting on a hitting percentage of .423.
Bimberg recorded 42 assists on the morning giving her an average of 15.12 assists per game for the week.
Leading the Herd in kills was Billingy with 19 on the day. Her average on the week was six kills per game while hitting .347 during the ECU Classic.
Together the three earned all-tournament honors, with Billingy taking the tournament's MVP award.
Marshall head coach Mitch Jacobs said the team came out and played admirably.
"We played really well down the stretch," Jacobs said. "It was a good weekend for the Herd."
The Marshall defense was anchored by Cahill who along with Maggie Arias posted 10 digs. Cahill also added a team-high with two blocks.
Jacobs said his team was ready to come home and prepare for its next match against intrastate rival West Virginia in Charleston, W.Va.
"We are looking forward to the WVU match Tuesday," he said. The "Golden Ball" will be on the line when the two teams meet at the Charleston Civic Center on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.
