HUNTINGTON - Marshall University Director of Athletics Bob Marcum has announced that the Thundering Herd will resume its football series with Ohio University in 2010. The six-game, home-and-home series will begin on September 25, 2010 in Huntington.

"Marshall and Ohio have a long history with one another and it was our goal from the start to continue this series once we had all of the dates worked out with our pre-exsisting contracts," Marcum said. "We look forward to continuing that relationship in football with the revival of the Battle for the Bell."

Marshall and Ohio have met 52 times since 1905 with Ohio holding a 29-17-6 advantage in the all-time series, however Marshall has won eight of the last nine meetings. The last meeting, a 16-13 MU win, was on Oct. 9, 2004 at Peden Stadium during Marshall's final season in the Mid-American Conference. The last time the two teams played each other as non-conference opponents was in 1988.

The 2010 season represented the first opportunity for Marshall and Ohio to renew the series, following the Thundering Herd's move to Conference USA in 2005.

The "Battle for the Bell" was started in 1997. The traveling trophy is a bronze bell, representative of those used on riverboats that journey down the Ohio River that divides the two schools. It is engraved with the score of each contest.
