Murphy Named to Preseason All-Conference USA Baseball Team

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall first baseman/designated hitter Brendan Murphy (Sr., Chattanooga, Tenn.) has been named to the Preseason All-Conference USA baseball team, announced by the league Thursday. The team was selected by a vote of the league's nine head coaches.

Murphy, a preseason all-conference pick at the Designated Hitter/Utility slot, earned Second-Team All-Conference USA and All-Mideast Region honors last season. He also has notched preseason honors this year with NCBWA Second-Team All-America recognition and a nod on the 2007 Wallace Award watch list.

Rice, the defending league champion and preseason No. 1 team in the country, was the unanimous choice to win the Conference USA crown. The Owls placed a league-high five players on the preseason team, including preseason player of the year Joe Savery and pitcher of the year Cole St. Clair.

Marshall opens its regular season Feb. 16 at Charleston Southern.
