Brooks Leads Marshall Track at Niswonger Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Marshall University senior Marian Brooks recorded a personal best time of 5:09.47 in the mile to win the event at the Niswonger Foundation Invitational at East Tennessee State University on Saturday.
Brooks, a native of Flat Top, W.Va., finished nearly nine seconds ahead of second-place finisher Caitlin Price of Georgia State who recorded a time of 5:18.77. Thirty-two athletes representing 19 different schools participated in the event.
The first-place performance by Brooks was just one of several fine performances by Marshall athletes over the weekend.
Marshall sophomore Tarrin Scott finished second in the long jump with a leap of 16-09.75 and MU freshman Rolanda Bruce finished 10th in the 800m run with a time of 2:27.29.
On Friday, MU Senior Britani Burke-Keeney placed third in the weight throw with a personal best throw of 52-feet, 5.25 inches, while all four Thundering Herd shot putters placed in a field of 34 athletes. Freshman Samantha Fetter placed sixth with a throw of 42-04.75; sophomore LaTricia Jones finished seventh (42-02.00); junior Rachel Blankenship finished eighth (41-08.50) and freshman Cara Rumburg finished ninth (41-05.25).
