HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University volleyball team concludes its five-match home-stand Friday, Oct. 19 when it hosts East Carolina University at the Cam Henderson Center. Match time is slated for 7:00 p.m. and admission is free. The Herd will travel to East Carolina, Sunday, Oct. 21 for the second of two matches against the Pirates.

Marshall enters Friday night's contest having won seven of its last eight matches and has a 14-8 overall record and is 7-1 in Conference USA. Despite falling short in a thrilling comeback against reigning C-USA Champion UAB, the Herd has maintained sole possession of the top spot in the C-USA volleyball standings.

In Friday night's CSTV showdown with UAB, senior outside hitters Kelly-Anne Billingy and Stephanie Cahill combined for 41 of the Herd's 74 kills. Billingy tallied a match-high 21 kills, while Cahill added 20 kills and 13 digs. Junior middle hitter Jalicia Ross finished the match with 16 kills and registered a solo block and six assisted blocks, while senior middle hitter Uche Ndubisi blasted 13 kills and added five assisted blocks to round out four players with 10 or more kills. Senior libero Maggie Arias dug 19 balls and sophomore outside hitter Kristin Marcum added 14 digs.

The Herd got back on track against Memphis after climbing out of an 0-2 hole and held on for a 3-2 victory, Sunday. Ndubisi recorded a career-high 18 kills in the win, while Billingy had a team-high 19 kills on the day. Freshman setter Elizabeth Fleming finished with 57 assists and 116 total for the weekend.

East Carolina enters Friday night's contest on a three-match losing skid and has an overall record of 12-11, 3-5 in Conference USA. The Pirates have conference wins against UTEP, Central Florida and Southern Miss.

The Pirates fell to Memphis in five games, Friday, and were held off by UAB in four games, Sunday.

Against the Tigers, senior Kelley Wernert tallied her second 30-kill match of the season, allowing her to break the ECU career record, while junior Trish Monroe contributed 19 digs in the losing effort.

In Sunday's match-up with UAB, Wernert registered 14 kills while Monroe chipped in with 16 digs in the loss to the Blazers.

Wernert has tallied a team-best 438 kills and second-best 240 digs to lead four other Pirates who have notched over 100 kills. Monroe leads ECU with 371 digs on the season and freshman Katie Koop has dished out 887 helpers so far in 2007.
