Marshall Volleyball Set To Host C-USA Showdown With Tulane

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University volleyball team will host Tulane University, Friday, Oct. 5 in a Conference USA battle at the Cam Henderson Center. Match-time is 7 p.m. and admission is free.

Marshall enters Friday's match riding a five-match winning streak and has an 11-7 overall record. The Herd has opened C-USA action with four consecutive victories, and currently sits in the number two spot in the conference.

The series is tied 1-1, with Tulane holding on for a 3-2 victory in its last meeting with the Herd on Sept. 24, 2006 in Huntington.

Marshall posted a 3-0 sweep of Southern Mississippi, Friday, Sept. 28 in Hattiesburg, and then traveled to Orlando, Fla. on Sunday, Sept. 30 and dispatched Central Florida in three games.

Senior outside hitter Kelly-Anne Billingy led the way for the Herd with 24 kills against Southern Miss, while freshman setter Elizabeth Fleming tallied 41 assists and had a match-high 18 digs in the win for the Herd. Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Marcum also contributed 11 digs against the Golden Eagles.

Marshall built a quick two-game lead in Sunday's contest against UCF. Freshman middle blocker Kelley Bugler, freshman outside hitter Elizabeth Herman, and sophomore middle blocker Layne Kehl saw significant action in game three. Bugler chimed in with a kill and three block assists, while Kehl added three kills, and Herman contributed two digs in the game for the Herd.

Senior outside hitter Stephanie Cahill, who recently broke into Marshall's top-five all-time kills category, has tallied a total of 212 kills so far in 2007, and has amassed 1,227 over her career to place her fourth on the Herd's all-time kills list. Cahill passed Kellie Beckelheimer-Hicks, who played for the Herd from 1988-91 and accumulated 1,208 kills over her career. Cahill is now just 14 kills shy of tying Bridget Repsher (1,241 kills) for the third-place spot.

Tulane enters Friday's contest on a six-match winning streak (15-3 overall, 5-0 C-USA) and is currently perched atop the conference standings with wins over UTEP, UAB, Memphis, Tulsa and SMU.

In the Green Wave's 3-0 win over Tulsa on Sept. 28, Tulane had three players combine for 43 of the team's 57 kills, including a match-high 15 kills from outside hitter Ksenija Vlaskovic.

In the match against SMU, outside hitter Sara Radosevic notched a match-best 18 kills and added 10 digs to highlight Tulane's 3-0 sweep of the Mustangs on Sept. 30. Vlaskovic tallied 15 kills and posted 12 digs to help lead the Green Wave to its 15^th win of the season and a tie of the team's win total in 2006.

The Marshall University Athletic Training Association is hosting a canned food race against University of Charleston from Oct. 1 - 31.

Marshall will host the 2007 Conference USA Championship on Nov. 15 to the 18^th at the Cam Henderson Center and ticket prices are as follows:
