HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University volleyball team will conclude its regular season home schedule when it hosts Southern Miss., Friday, Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. and UCF, Sunday, Nov. 4 for Senior Day at 1:00 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center.
Marshall enters Friday night's contest having won 12 of its last 13 matches (and is currently on a 5-match winning streak) and boasts an 18-8 overall record, and is 11-1 in Conference USA action.
The Herd traveled to Houston, Texas this past weekend for a pair of matches against Rice and Houston and came away with 3-1 and 3-0 victories respectively. In Friday night's match against Rice, senior outside hitter Kelly-Anne Billingy notched a match-high 26 kills and added 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the season, while senior outside hitter Stephanie Cahill chipped in with her 14th double-double of the season with 18 kills and 13 digs. Freshman setter Liz Fleming contributed 62 assists as the Herd hit at a .277 clip for the match.
Marshall continued its tour of Houston with a 3-0 sweep of the Cougars. Billingy again led the team in kills with 17, while junior middle hitter Jalicia Ross added 13 kills and Cahill registered 11 kills (and contributed a match-high 16 digs) for her 15th double-double of the season. Fleming chimed in with 48 assists for an average of 16 per game, and the Herd hit at a .276 clip to maintain its offensive consistency.
Southern Miss. enters Friday night's contest on an eight-match losing skid and is 10-18 overall, 1-11 in C-USA action. The Golden Eagles' lone conference win came against East Carolina on Sept. 30 in Hattiesburg, Miss.
The Golden Eagles dropped a 3-0 decision to Memphis Friday night. Sophomore Angela Hlavaty and junior Ashley Petrinec tallied nine kills apiece in the loss.
Southern Miss. fell short against UAB, 3-2 but did receive double-doubles from three players. Petrinec led the way with 17 kills and 15 digs while senior Mari Ruddick tallied 14 kills and 10 digs and senior Morgan Johnson added 11 kills and 11 digs in the losing effort for the Golden Eagles.
