MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Marshall Thundering Herd women's tennis team won its seventh straight match against cross-state rival West Virginia picking up the 6-1 victory on Sunday.

The Herd (5-3) continued the winning streak that started in 1999 by handing the Mountaineers their third loss on the season. Marshall head coach John Mercer decided to shuffle up the doubles lineups with a successful result. With the change the Herd wasted no time jumping out to the 1-0 lead sweeping the doubles point.

"It was a good day everyone did a good job picking it up in the doubles," Mercer said.

In singles play, Marshall's Kellie Schmitt continued her perfect season picking up a straight-set victory, 6-0, 6-2, over Natalia Prinz. The Mountaineers would not go away and even led in some of the matches. However, the Herd was able ally and take the match after Karolina Soor claimed the clinching point in the match with a 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 win over Stacey Percival.

"West Virginia did a good job in the singles but we continued to fight hard and we were able to come out on top," Mercer said. "It's always good to get a win and hopefully we will able to continue and get better going forward."

The 59th-ranked Herd will be back on the road for its next to matches. Marshall will take on No. 25 William and Mary at 5 p.m. Friday and then take on Ohio State at 1 p.m. Saturday.
