SAN ANTONIO - The Marshall men's golf team ended the UTSA Intercollegiate in 12th place out of 16 teams after the final 18 holes today in San Antonio with a team total of 918 (313-302-303). Sam Houston State captured the team title by 18 strokes with a three-round total of 865 (295-295-275) over second-place Louisiana-Monroe (290-298-295=883).
Shawn Warren (Windham, Maine) and Jonathan Pepe (McKeesport, Pa.) were the Herd's top finishers with a total of 225, which was good for a tie for 29th. Pepe (82-73-70) fired a 70 in the final round, while Warren (75-77-73) shot a 73 to close out the tournament. Other Marshall finishers were Christian Brand (Charleston W.Va.) with a 230 (77-71-82, T-49), Nathan Kinker (Barboursville, W.Va.) with a 242 (79-82-81, T-74), and Trent Schambach (Glen Dale, W.Va.) with a 243 (83-81-79, T-78).
Individually, Matt Miller of Illinois State won medalist honors with a 208 (72-69-67).
Marshall returns to action at the USF Invitational in Tampa, Fla., March 2-4.
