Women's Track Finishes Third at UNC Invitational

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Marshall University's women's track and field team recorded 11 top five finishes en route to a third-place team finish at the University of North Carolina Invitational this weekend in Chapel Hill, N.C.
North Carolina won the meet with a team score of 243.50, Duke finish second at 120.50, and Marshall finished third at 76. Richmond and N.C. State finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to round out the top five.
The Thundering Herd's Carmisa Morris had a good showing in the 100 meter dash. Morris had the top preliminary time of 12.04 and went on to finish third in the finals with a 12.18-second run. UNC's Tyra Johnson won the event after posting a time of 11.91 seconds.
Marshall's Anglecia Harris used a 58.79 400 meter to place fourth in that event, while the Herd's Breanna Jones took a third place finish in the 100m hurdles by posting a time of 14.63 seconds.
The Herd's Rolanda Bruce finished fifth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.93, while Teniqua Sutton placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.61 meters (18-3).
Sutton also led a trio of Marshall jumpers that finished four, five and six in the triple jump. Sutton recorded a 12-meter jump (39-4.50) and was followed by Andrea Jackson (11.56m/37-11.25) and Quinyanna Brown (11.29m/37-0.5).
Marshall's throwers also enjoyed a fine showing. Rachel Blankenship finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.61 meters and she placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 41.61 meters (136-6). LaTricia Jones placed fourth in the hammer for Marshall with a throw 42.31m (138-10). The Herd's Kwema Philander added a fifth place showing in the javelin (35.58m (116-09).
