Southern Miss (30-19, 11-10 C-USA) managed 16 hits, while limiting Marshall to eight en route to completing a three-game sweep of the Thundering Herd (19-26, 4-13 C-USA).
Marshall's Jeremy Slone (3-3) pitched six and two thirds innings allowing 13 hits and seven earned runs, while walking one in a losing effort. USM's David Clark (6-4) scattered seven hits over seven innings and allowed only one earned run, while striking out four to pick up the win.
The Thundering Herd was led offensively by freshman Mason Chapman who went 1-for-4 for the game with a sac fly in the fifth and a bunt single that allowed Marshall's first run of the game to score in the fifth when the Golden Eagles' Clark commited an error.
