HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Marshall University Thundering Herd men's soccer team will begin its 2007 campaign at the James Madison Invitational where it will play the host JMU Dukes, Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. before closing out play against Georgetown, Sunday at noon.

The Herd, coming off a 1-2 record in exhibition play, returns 14 letterwinners from last year's squad and adds 11 newcomers. Marshall will be anchored by it senior defender, Jeff Lenix (Westerville, Ohio), whose play the past two years earned him Conference USA Second Team honors. The return of senior midfielder John Daniele (Columbus, Ohio), who received a medical hardship last year, will give the Herd plenty of experience at the mid-field position.

Throughout exhibition play, newcomers Sammy Boateng (Accra, Ghana) and Kendall Sutton (Wheaton, Md.) have shown they can compete at the collegiate level. Both saw significant playing time in the Rio Grande and West Virginia exhibition games.

Despite an all-time 0-3 record against James Madison, Marshall is riding a two-game win streak in season openers, including last year's 4-1 victory over the Manhattan Jaspers. The Dukes are led by their junior forward Lasse Kokko who was named to the Colonial Athletic Association preseason team.

The JMU Invitational will comprise of Georgetown, UNC Greensboro, host James Madison and Marshall. Georgetown and UNC Greensboro will kick off action Friday at 5 p.m.
