Huntington, W.Va. - Junior Andrew Blain (Huntington, W.Va.) captured first place at the Herd Challenge, a physical skills test conducted by the Marshall baseball coaching staff, which began Tuesday, Aug. 28, and concluded Friday morning.

Blain, a left-handed pitcher, recorded a 70 at the challenge to secure the first place finish. During the first day of competition, Blain ran a 7:42 mile and threw a 15-pound medicine ball 33 feet and four inches to finish fourth place on the day. Blain jumped two spots in the second day after a 6.81 second 60-yard dash.

During Thursday's events, Blain posted a 3.75 second time from home plate to first base, and recorded 74 push-ups to move into first place. Blain secured the Herd Challenge title after claiming first at Friday's gauntlet, which gave him 34 points to finish with an overall score of 70.

The Herd Challenge tests the student-athletes athleticism by a series of tests including sprints, a mile run, plate holds, medicine ball touches and more. Four to five events were conducted during the first three days and the challenge finished with Friday's gauntlet. Thirty-four points were given to the winner of the gauntlet and each skills test was worth five points for the first place finishers.
