BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Marshall University volleyball senior outside hitter Stephanie Cahill (Louisville, Ky.) tallied a match-high 15 kills and the Herd had three players record double-digit kills en route to a 3-1 (22-30, 31-29, 30-23, 30-20) victory over Tennessee State University in Saturday afternoon's non-conference Western Kentucky Tournament match at the E.A Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Ky.

With the win, Marshall extends its winning streak to three games and improves to 4-2 overall, while Tennessee State falls to 1-4 overall.

With the match tied at one game apiece, the Herd used a nine-point lead (23-14) and an eight-point lead (29-21) to claim the go ahead victory in game three. Junior middle hitter Jalicia Ross (Bank Village, Trinidad) registered her eleventh kill of the match to help extend the Herd lead to 2-1.

With the score at 25-20 in the fourth game, Marshall tallied five consecutive points capped off by a service ace from senior libero Maggie Arias (Indianapolis, Ind.) to end the match. The Herd were able to maintain a lead throughout the fourth game, never letting the Lady Tigers get within five points en route to its fourth victory of the season.

Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Marcum (Arlington, Texas) tallied 12 kills and 12 digs and Ross added 11 to round out the Herd's double-digit swingers. Arias finished with 15 digs and junior defensive specialist Taylor Tanner (Union, Ky.) added 10 in the win. Cahill also notched 11 digs in the winning effort.

Marshall posted a quick 4-0 lead in the first game before the Lady Tigers were able to storm back and knot the game at 4-4. The teams fought to five more ties and Marshall was able to get to within one at 19-20 behind a four-kill effort from Cahill but Tennessee State was able to pull away to the 22-30 victory.

In the second game, the Lady Tigers built a 17-12 lead before Marshall clawed back to tie the game at 24-24 on a combined blocking effort from Marcum and Ross. From there, the two teams fought to five more ties before senior middle hitter Uche Ndubisi (Indianapolis, Ind.) drove home her fourth kill of the contest to help lift the Herd to a 30-29 lead and even the match 1-1.

Ndubisi finished with eight kills in the match.

The Herd concludes Western Kentucky Tournament action, Saturday when it faces host Western Kentucky at 7 p.m.
