Boca Raton, Fla. - The Marshall University men's soccer team improved its winning-streak to six games after senior John Daniele (Columbus, Ohio) registered two goals in a 2-1 overtime victory over non-conference opponent Florida Atlantic, Sunday afternoon.
It was the gutsiest performance I have ever seen from any team," Marshall Head Coach Bob Gray said.
The Herd holds a 7-3-0 record and is 1-0-0 in the Conference USA, while the loss drops the Owls to 4-5-0 on the season.
FAU struck first in the contest on a penalty kick in the first minute after intermission. The Owl's Diego Monslave capitalized on the Herd miscue to give FAU the 1-0 advantage.
Marshall stormed back with the Daniele brothers. Nick Daniele (Columbus, Ohio) chipped a pass to his brother John who placed the shot in the back of the net to even the game at one.
Playing with only eight players in the overtime period, goalkeeper Craig Ratanamorn (Wichita, Kan.) sent a punt clear across the field to Osric Flores (Everett, Wash.) who sent a header to John Daniele to clinch to Marshall victory with his second goal of the game.
Ratanamorn finished the game with eight saves and boasts a perfect 5-0 record in goal.
The Herd's six-game winning streak is the longest streak dating back to the 1982-83 seasons when Marshall closed out the 1982 season with five victories and won its first game in the 1983 season.
Marshall returns to action Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. when it travels to Lynchburg, Va., to take on its final non-conference opponent, Liberty.
