Marshall Baseball Announces Addition of Lipton

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall baseball head coach Jeff Waggoner recently announced the addition of junior outfielder Kurt Lipton to the 2008 Thundering Herd baseball squad.

Lipton, a 6-foot-6-inch 200 pounder from Boca Raton, Fla., was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 40th round of the 2005 Major League Draft.

The junior transfer from Vanderbilt University tallied three doubles, a homer and two RBI in 24 games (including four starts) in his first season with the Commodores. Lipton was 2-for-5 with an RBI in start against Lipscomb, and went 2-for-2 with a double after coming off the bench in second game of doubleheader against Alabama.

Lipton hit .289 while committing no errors in the field in his second season at Vanderbilt. He made 10 starts and appeared in 21 games for the Commodores and tallied two doubles and three RBI in 2007.

At Pinecrest High School, Lipton was a five-year starter in baseball (lettering all five years) and lettered once in both football and basketball. Lipton was also the class vice president in 2003.
