Volleyball Set For Final Regular Season Contest, Saturday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University volleyball squad will conclude regular season action when it hosts East Carolina in a Conference USA match, Saturday, Nov. 15. First-serve is slated for 1:00 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center and admission is free.

Marshall enters weekend action 11-14 overall, 4-11 in league play, while East Carolina stands at 13-17 on the season, 3-12 in C-USA.

East Carolina took a 3-1 decision on Saturday, Sept. 19 in Greenville, N.C. to earn its first win over the Thundering Herd in program history. Marshall now leads the all-time series 8-1.

Elizabeth Herman (Dunwoody, Ga.) drilled a match-high 17 kills while Jalicia Ross (Bank Village, Trinidad) and Kristin Marcum (Arlington, Texas) downed 14 apiece to lead the Marshall offense. Elizabeth Fleming (South Bend, Ind.) collected 47 assists, while Jessica Dhoore (LaPorte, Ind.) hustled for a match-best 18 digs in the losing effort. The Pirates were led offensively by Stephanie Turner's 14 kills, while Melissa Zentner and Amanda Lutzow added 13 and 12 kills respectively. Hannah Fenker paced the attack with 44 assists and provided 10 digs, while Trish Monroe also notched 10 digs in the match.

The Herd enters Saturday's contest with conference wins over Memphis, UTEP, SMU and UCF, while East Carolina has earned victories over Marshall, SMU and UCF.

Ross currently ranks second in the league with a .425 hitting percentage (261K, 50E, 497TA) and is now ranked fifth nationally in the category. Emily Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio) ranks in the top 15 in C-USA in kills per set with 2.87. She now has a total of 258 for the season. Fleming has amassed a 10.63 assists per set average (4th best in C-USA) and also ranks fifth in the league with 1010 total helpers. Megan Carlson (Andover, Minn.) has collected a fourth best 0.32 service aces per set, and a fifth-best 33 total aces. Carlson, a freshman, also leads the squad in digs with 284, and averages a 2.99 per set (good enough to place in the top 15 in C-USA).

With 49 digs last week, Monroe moved into the No. 4 spot on the conference's all-time digs leader-board. She currently has 1,836 and needs just six to tie for third-place. Monroe was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts, and is now ranked third in the league for digs this season with 485 (4.37 per set). Fenker averages 7.30 assists per set and has 730 for the season, ranking her ninth in the league in the category. Turner ranks in the top 15 in CUSA for service aces 26 (0.25 per set). Erica Banning has totaled 99.0 blocks (16 solo, 83 assisted) so far this season (1.01 per set average) and ranks seventh in C-USA.

Ross and Taylor Tanner (Union, Ky.) will be honored during Senior Day festivities prior to Saturday's match against ECU.
