ATHENS, Ohio - Marshall University's Victor Gomez blasted his ninth home run of the season and extended his hitting streak to nine games in a 10-3 victory over Ohio in Tuesday night's non-conference baseball game at Bob Wren Stadium.

With the win, Marshall (23-21-1 overall) extends its current winning streak to three games, while Ohio falls to 20-23 on the season.

Ahead 3-2 in the top of the seventh frame, Marshall exploded for three runs as Ben Jurevicius, who was hit by a pitch, stole second and advanced to third on single through the left side by Matt Helm. Brandon Casamassima singled in Jurevicius before Josh Valle plated Helm and Casamassima with a double to left field to extend the Thundering Herd's lead to 6-2.

Gomez made the score 7-2 with one swing of the bat in the top of the eighth, before a pair of doubles from the Bobcats brought the score to 7-3 in the home half of the inning.

Marshall tacked on three more in the top of the ninth inning when Helm earned a lead off walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Adam Yeager. After Blake Sanders drew a pinch-hit walk, Nate Lape singled to left field, advanced to second on an outfield miscue and ended up scoring on the play, giving Marshall a 10-3 advantage.

Herd reliever Adam Dobies pitched a scoreless final inning to seal the Herd's 23rd victory of the year.

Marshall starter Shane Farrell (1-1) earned his first collegiate-victory after tossing 6.2 solid innings. The freshman gave up just two runs and two free-passes while striking out four in the process. He also scattered a mere six hits in the outing.

Ohio starter John Angellicchi (0-2) suffered the loss for the Bobcats.

Down 1-0 in the top of the second, Lape singled to left field, stole second, and scored on a shot up the middle by Gomez. Gomez then stole second, and came full circle on a single into center field by Jurevicius for the go ahead run.

Marshall moved that lead to 3-1 in the next inning (third) when an RBI single by Valle scored Helm who hit by a pitch.

An RBI groundout by Jeremie Rehak knocked in Matt Stiffler who had tripled down the right field line in the previous at-bat. The run cut Ohio's deficit to 3-2 before the teams played three scoreless innings of baseball.

Lape finished the day with three hits, while Valle, Gomez, Jurevicius and Helm added two apiece, while Valle drove in three teammates in the winning effort.

Casamassima extended his hitting streak to a current team-best 10 games.

Marshall returns to non-conference action Wednesday, April 30 when it travels to Lexington, Ky. to take on No. 16 Kentucky. First-pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and will feature Herd right-hander Ian Kadish (1-1).
