Herd Track and Field Fairs Well at Oiler Open

FINDLAY, Ohio - The Marshall University women's track and field team had a very solid showing in the first meet of the season as the Herd had six members reach the finals at the Oiler Open on the campus of Findlay University Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Alecia Daniels and sophomore Rachel Coaxum each reached the finals of the 60-meter hurdles. Daniels placed fifth while Coaxman was seventh.

Freshman Vanessa Jules had a fourth place finish in the 300-meters and doubled back grabbing seventh in the high jump. She posted a time of 41.83 in the 300-meters, and cleared 1.63m in the high jump.

"I was pleased with are freshman," head coach Jeff Small said. "They performed very well today. It's good for them to get the first meet under their belt. Now they can focus on their finals and be ready for to go next semester."

Senior LaTricia Jones was third in the Hammer throw with a toss of 55.5 feet.

This was the Herd's only track meet before the end of the semester. They compete next on Jan. 15th at the Kentucky Invitational.
