Molly Grove Places Second in Weight Throw at Akron Open

AKRON, Ohio - Junior Molly Grove (Bunker Hill, W.Va.) finished second in the weight throw event this past weekend at the Akron Invitational.
Grove's throw was only behind Akron's Nicole Wilson best of 16.03m. The Thundering Herd had two others finish in the event's top ten with senior Rachel Bilek (Hebron, Ind.) placing seventh (14.94m) and junior Cara Rumburg in 10th (14.30m).
In the shot put event, Rumburg took home sixth place with a heave of 12.29m and freshman Raivyn Chancellor (Anderson, S.C.) earned ninth with a distance of 11.62m.
Sophomore Kristin Smith (Baltimore, Md.) continued to have success in the high jump event placing third. Smith's jump of 1.68m is only second best to her 1.71m mark at the Niswonger Invitational this season.
The Marshall 4x400 relay team, which took first at the Marietta College Alumni meet last week, finished third this weekend but improved on its time going from 4:00.00 to 3:53.91.
Freshman Delkira Maybrin (Newberry, S.C.) earned a fourth place time in the 60-meter dash event posting a 7.69 time.

Marshall women's track will hit the road Feb. 20-21 to travel to Blacksburg, Va. to compete in the Virginia Tech Challenge.
