Women's Track Opens Outdoor Season at Miami

MIAMI, Fla. - After completing a stellar indoor season, the Marshall University women's track returned back to action this past weekend participating in the Hurricane Invitational hosted by the University of Miami.

Junior Andrea Jackson (Sumter, S.C.) who broke her own record in the indoor triple jump, started off by placing third in the event this weekend with a mark of 12.32m.

Also of note in the jump events, freshman Morgan Bryant (Crab Orchard, W.Va.) took fifth in the long jump (5.05m) and classmate Rachel Coaxum (Catlett, Va.) finished 10th in the triple jump (10.99m).

In the throwing events, the Thundering Herd grabbed five top ten marks including junior Cara Rumburg (Princeton, W.Va.) who finished seventh in the shot put (11.37m) and freshman Raivyn Chancellor (Anderson, S.C.) picking up sixth place in the shot put (11.63m) and the discus (39.94m).

Senior Breanna Jones (Columbia, S.C.) who owns a school record in the hurdles picked up a fifth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.57. The current record set by Jones sits at 13.97.

The Herd will continue to move into the outdoor schedule with a trip back to Florida to compete in the UCF Invitational in Orlando. The competition runs from March 27-28.
