Jackson, Jones Lead Marshall Track and Field at Niswonger Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Andrea Jackson placed third in the triple jump and LaTricia Jones had a top-ten finish in the weight throw to pace the Marshall University women's track and field team at the Niswonger Invitational Saturday, hosted by Middle Tennessee State University.

Jackson's leap of 39-07.75 feet bested 36 other competitors in the field as she placed third. South Carolina State's Jasmine Smith and Western Carolina's Tia Jones just eclipsed Jackson's mark for first and second place, respectively.

Jones made it back to the finals of the women's weight throw, finishing sixth with a toss of 53-11.75. Ronda Broome, throwing unattached, won the competition with a distance of 18.76.

Other notable performances include Vanessa Jules placing sixth in the high jump with a mark of 5-03.25 feet, and Kathleen Clark registering a 2:23 in the 800-meter run.

The Herd is back in competition Feb. 5, as they take part in the Marietta Invitational, hosted by Marietta College.
