Weekly Fall Ball Awards Announced

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University baseball coach Jeff Waggoner announced the weekly baseball awards for the fall season. Senior Victor Gomez was named the top defender (gold glove), while newcomers Gray Stafford and Aaron Blair earned top hitter (silver slugger) and top pitcher (Cy Young) accolades for their efforts during the past week.
Gomez was a First Team All-Conference USA selection at the catcher position in 2010 and holds the Marshall records for career homers, RBI and total bases. He registered a .364 batting average with 17 homers and 63 RBI in his junior season.
Stafford, the younger brother of junior Rhett Stafford, joins the Herd after playing his freshman campaign at Spartanburg Methodist Junior College.
Blair was a 21st round selection in the 2010 MLB amateur draft, but opted to join the MU squad. As a senior, the right-hander posted a 7-0 record with 75 strikeouts in 57 innings and a 2.95 ERA at Spring Valley HS in Las Vegas, Nev.
