HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University volleyball player Elizabeth Fleming was voted a First Team ESPN All-Academic District II selection for the second-straight year. Fleming now advances to the national poll for a chance at being named an Academic All-American.
"Liz's academic record and achievements are exemplary," head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "She's been our starting setter for four years and is closing in on some remarkable milestones. I believe that Liz is fully deserving of this honor."
Fleming has earned some extraordinary academic accolades during her time at Marshall. In 2009, the South Bend, Ind., product earned Second Team Academic All-American Second Team honors. She has accumulated a perfect 4.0 grade point average while majoring in international affairs and is a part of the distinguished Yeager Scholarship Program.
The Herd setter is averaging 9.67 assists/set and tops the team in double-doubles with 11 on the season. She has posted four matches of 50-or-more assists and is closing in 5,000 career assists (4,894) and 1,000 digs (926). She ranks third in school history in assists and eighth all-time in C-USA.
The teams are voted on by college and university Sports Information, Media Relations and Athletic Communications professionals who are members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must hold at least a 3.3 grade point average and be a sophomore in academic and athletic standing.
