Marshall Men's Golf Travels To Furman Intercollegiate This Weekend

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.--The Marshall University men's golf team heads to the Furman Intercollegiate this weekend. Play begins Friday, Mar. 19 at 12 p.m. at the Furman Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.. Round two is scheduled for Saturday Mar. 20 with the final 18 holes coming on Sunday Mar. 14. Saturday's teetimes is set for 9 a.m.. Sunday's start time will be determined on Saturday's team standings.

The Herd is 1-of-24 teams in the field. Joining Marshall in the tournament are Appalachian State, Charleston Southern, Clemson, Davidson, East Carolina, Elon, Francis Marion, Furman, Gardner-Webb, Kennesaw State, Missisippi State, Old Dominion, Presbyterian, Rhode Island, Samford, Temple, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Troy, UAB, Virginia Tech, Western Carolina, Winthrop, and Wofford.

Five of the teams; Clemson (18), Tennessee-Chattanooga (31), Virginia Tech (52), East Carolina (63), and Furman (64) are are ranked in the Golfweek Top 100.

The Marshall lineup will be comprised of Nathan Kerns (Fr., Ironton, Ohio, Ironton H.S.), Bennett Boyer (So., Millersburg, Pa., Millersburg Area H.S.), Carson Schambach (So., Glen Dale, W. Va., John Marshall H.S.), Dustin Cutlip (R-Jr., Marlinton, W.Va., Pocahontas H.S.), and Phil DiLorenzo (R-Sr., Weirton, W.Va., Brooke H.S.). Ryan Brookshire (R-So., Grapevine, Texas, Colleyville-Heritage H.S.) will participate in the tournament as an individual.

Cutlip, as an individual, was the top Herd player during the Mar. 12-14 Pinehurst Intercollegiate. Cutlip tied for 35th after shooting 226 (75-75-74). Schambach shot an even par 72 during the opening round on his way to tying for 38th (72-79-76-227). Kerns shot an even par 72 during round two. Kerns (80-72-76)and Bennett Boyer (R-Jr., Millersburg, Pa., Millersburg Area H.S.) (77-76-75) tied for 43rd (228). Miller (75-80-79) and Aaron Boggs (R-Madison, W.Va., Scott H.S.) (77-78-79) tied for 73rd (234). Marshall finished 15th in the tournament.
