Jackson Wins Triple Jump at Hurricane Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Marshall University women's track and field team concluded day two at the Hurricane Invitational with Andrea Jackson winning the triple jump and a handful of long distance runners placing well in their heats.
Jackson cruised to her first victory of the outdoor season as she was the only triple jump competitor to reach 40 feet. Jackson's leap of 12.48m (40-11 feet) on her fourth attempt was more than two feet clear of second place.
Kathleen Clark won her heat in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:19.24, while Allison Cox finished second in her heat of the 1500 meter run, crossing the line in 4:58.52. Leslie Thomas was fifth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:49.
Vanessa Jules grabbed second place in the high jump as she cleared 5-feet-7.
Several Marshall men's cross country runner also competed in the meet held on the campus of the University of Miami. David Caldwell won the 5000 meter run in a time of 15:19.66, while Matt Schiffbauer missed first place in the 1500 meter run by a half second behind C.J. Jessett of Texas. Schiffbauer finished with a time of 3:53.67.
The Herd returns to action next weekend as it stays in the state of Florida to participate in the UCF Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
