HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University baseball team will play a pair of mid-week games, battling No. 1 Virginia in Charlottesville, Va., on Tuesday at 5 p.m. and return to host Ohio at the Kennedy Center on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

No. 1 Virginia (17-3)
The No.1-ranked Virginia Cavaliers enter after an impressive three-game sweep of Atlantic Coast Conference opponent Boston College. UVA received dominant performances from all three weekend starters, as three hurlers combined to toss 21.0 innings and allow only two earned runs.

The Thundering Herd is 0-10 all-time against UVA, but nearly knocked off the Cavaliers last season in Charlottesville, falling 5-4. MU led 4-1 entering the bottom of the seventh inning before a four-run frame gave UVA the lead and the eventual victory.

Ohio (2-14)
The Ohio Bobcats will play Appalachian State on Tuesday prior to a trip to Huntington. OU struggled over the weekend, suffering a three-game sweep from the hands of the Purdue Boilermakers.

The game will mark the 150th career matchup between the two schools, with Ohio owning the upper hand as the Herd is 47-101-1 versus the Bobcats. The last meeting came in 2008, when MU was victorious, 10-3.

The Bobcats have been led offensively by Gauntlett Eldemire who tops the team in batting average (.429), runs (17), hits (27), doubles (7), RBI (18) and slugging percentage (.714).

Marshall (8-9)
A tough home opening weekend against the Le Moyne Dolphins set the Thundering Herd back to 8-9 overall after losing three-of-four contests. Kurt Lipton was a bright spot at the plate, as the senior outfielder hit .538 (7-for-13) for the weekend with a double and triple.

In an 11-7 series finale win against the Dolphins, the Herd swiped nine bases, including three from outfielder Rhett Stafford. Lipton went 4-for-5 in the game, while Thor Meeks mashed a pair of doubles and Eric Semeniuk launched his third homer of the season.
