Baseball Heads to Georgia Southern

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University baseball team makes its third road trip in as many weekends, with a voyage to Statesboro, Ga., to take on Southern Conference member Georgia Southern. The three-game series begins Friday with a showdown under the lights of J.I. Clements Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m. Game two is slated for Saturday (2:30 p.m.) followed by the third game on Sunday (1:30 p.m.).

Marshall (4-3)
The Thundering Herd enter the series after posting a 2-1 tally at the Charleston Crab House Shootout in Charleston, S.C., hosted by The Citadel. MU knocked off Radford, 3-2 and St. Joseph's, 10-2, to earn the two victories. The lone defeat came to the hands of The Citadel Bulldogs, 4-1.
MU struggled offensively in the first two games with Kurt Lipton providing most of the punch from the left side of the plate, including two homers and a 3-for-4 day against Radford. An offensive breakout took place vs. the St. Joe's Hawks with Eric Semeniuk blasting two homers and James Lavinskas smoking a solo shot to lead the charge. Mike Mason earned the victory tying career-highs in innings pitched (6.0) and strikeouts (6) on the bump for the Herd.
Georgia Southern (3-6)
The Eagles are coming off a mid-week loss to North Florida by a 14-3 score. Last weekend, GS hosted Holy Cross and captured two-of-three in the series.
As a team, GS has connected for 10 homers on the season, led by Kyle Blackburn who has hit four round trippers on his own. Shawn Payne leads the squad in batting average (.361), hits (13), runs (13) and doubles (4) while roaming centerfield on defense.
