STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern starter Jake Brown fired a complete game allowing one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts to defeat the Marshall University baseball team, 9-1 on Friday night under the lights at J.I. Clements Stadium.

A southpaw, Brown (1-2) retired 13 batters in a row at one point to improve the Eagles to 4-6 on the season. Thundering Herd starter Ian Kadish (0-2) was saddled with the loss. The junior right-hander tossed 3.1 innings with four strikeouts as MU dropped to 4-4.

In the top half of the second, designated hitter Rhett Stafford hammered a two-out offering from Eagles' starter Brown off the wall in right-centerfield to plate Eric Semeniuk to hold a 1-0 advantage.

GS proceeded to push across two runs in bottom half of the frame. Kevin Bowles led off the inning with a base knock to right field and would score on a RBI single from Eric Phillips. Steve Cochrane scored the second run on a two-out infield single off the bat of Arthur Owens.

The Eagles tacked on a run the third thanks to a sac fly from Bowles.

In the top of the fourth, GS batted around exploding for six runs on just three hits as the Herd used a trio of arms in the inning.

Lefty Ben Frith tallied the top pitching performance of his collegiate career. The sophomore worked the final 4.0 innings, a career-high, surrendering only two hits and kept the Eagles off the scoreboard the rest of the night.

Game two of the three-game series is slated for tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. inside J.I. Clements Stadium. GameTracker can be followed by logging onto HerdZone.com. Live video streaming is available for purchase at GeorgiaSouthernEagles.com.
