Marshall Shoots Ties For 20th At UK Bluegrass Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky.-The Marshall University men's golf team tied with the University of Cincinnati for 20th at the UK Bluegrass Invitaitonal Apr. 10 at the Big Blue Course. Marshall completed the second round early Sunday morning and led by a career low 68 (three under par) from Aaron Boggs (R-Fr., Madison, W.Va.), the Herd turned the team's lowest round of the Spring, 291. The 291 performance combined with a first round 303, pushed Marshall up into 17th place to start the final round Sunday afternoon. The Thundering Herd recorded a 306 during the final round which left Marshall in the tie with the Bearcats (900). Murray State took home the team title (850).
Carson Schambach (So. Glen Dale, W.Va.) carded the top Marshall individual performance. Schambach shot a one over 72 in round one, completed the second round with a 75, and recorded a 76 for a 54-hole total of 223 to tie for 72nd overall. Auburn's John Stembridge (206) was the tournament medalist.
Bosten Miller (So., Charleston, W.Va.) went one under par for a career best 70 in the second round. Miller shot 79 in round one and 75 in round three for a 224 total.
Nathan Kerns (Fr., Ironton, Ohio) recorded a 75 in round one and a 78 in round two. Kerns' low round of themeet came in round three when he shot a two over 73 for 226.
Boggs tallied a 77 in his opening round before registering his career low in round two. He wrapped up tournament play with an 82 in his final 18 holes. Boggs shot 227 for the event.
Bennett Boyer (R-Jr., Millersburg, Pa.)began his tournament by shooting an 82 and followed it up with an 80 in the second ruond. Boyer shot 86 in the final round for a two-day total of 248.
The UK Bluegrass Invitational served as the final regular season tournament for the Thundering Herd. Marshall begins the Conference USA Tournament Apr. 25 at the Red Tail Golf Course just outside of Orlando, Fla.
