HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University baseball team will travel to Athens, Ohio, to play the Ohio University Bobcats on Wednesday at 6 p.m. on the diamond of Bob Wren Stadium.
Marshall brings an 11-15 overall record, while Ohio sits at 3-21 on the season. The Bobcats will play Tuesday night against Wright State prior to the game with the Thundering Herd.
MU enters the contest after dropping a series to the hands of the Memphis Tigers. The Herd captured game one Friday night, 7-4, before losing both ends of a twin-bill by scores of 10-8 and 22-13 on Saturday.
Kurt Lipton and Nathan Gomez both produced at the dish last week, leading the team that finished with a .349 batting average over four games, despite posting a 1-3 record. Lipton went 8-for-16 during the four-game stretch, including a double, two triples, homer, eight RBI and 16 total bases. N.Gomez hit a team-best .636 (7-for-11) with three runs scored, two doubles and four RBI.
Gauntlett Eldemire and Robert Maddox III continue to top the Bobcats offense. Gauntlett is first on the club in hits (38), doubles (9), RBI (25) and total bases (61), while Maddox III is second in all of those categories and is the team-leader in long balls with five on the year.
Last Time vs. Ohio: Marshall 10, Ohio 4 (3/24/10)
The Marshall University baseball team plated eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks in part to a bases clearing double from Victor Gomez and a pinch-hit two-run double from Alfredo Brito to send the Thundering Herd past Ohio University, 10-4.
V. Gomez finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI; both of his doubles came in the eight-run fourth. Younger brother Nathan Gomez picked up a RBI double as a replacement later in the game as a total of 11 different players collected a base hit on the day.
