Baseball Plays Final Conference USA Series at Houston

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University baseball team takes a flight to Texas to battle the University of Houston for a three-game set, beginning on Friday night at 6:30 CT. MU owns a 22-26 record and 11-10 in Conference USA, while UH is 20-27 and 7-11 in league play.
The Thundering Herd trails the Cougars 2-12 in the all-time series. The series at UH marks the final three C-USA games for MU of the 2010 conference schedule. The Herd currently sits in fourth place in league standings and UH is ninth, with the top six clubs qualifying for the league tournament.

A midweek matchup with Morehead State was washed out due to heavy rains in the Huntington area as MU has not played a game since taking one-of-three against the No. 25 Rice Owls.
In the 4-3 victory against the Owls last Saturday, Victor Gomez connected for two homers, his third multi-homer game of his career. The junior catcher is the team leader in batting average (.362), doubles (12), homers (15) and RBI (54).
Rhett Stafford has heated up recently for the MU offense. In the series against Rice, Stafford went 6-for-13 with three doubles, two homers and three RBI. The Cheraw, S.C., native slugged 1.154 over the three games and went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a solo bomb in the series finale.
Houston (20-27, 7-11 C-USA)
The top four hitters for the Cougars are hitting .321 or better and have all stolen 10-or-more bases. Shortstop Blake Kelso has played in all 47 UH games and tops the team in hits (63) and is second in total bases (89).
Friday night starter Michael Goodnight has fired a team-best 65.2 innings on the UH hill, while also topping the Cougars with 69 strikeouts.
