Volleyball's Kristin Marcum Named Conference USA Postgraduate Scholarship Recipient

IRVING, Texas - Conference USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky announced the 12 recipients of the Jim Castaňeda Postgraduate Scholarship awards on Tuesday, with Marshall University volleyball player Kristin Marcum earning recognition for her pursuit of higher education.
Marcum was a four-year member of the Thundering Herd volleyball team under the watch of head coach Mitch Jacobs. During her senior campaign, Marcum served as team captain and was honored for her hard work and leadership skills by earning the Marshall Athletic Leadership Award in 2010.
Academically, she was honored as a C-USA Academic Medalist, while also becoming a Beta Gamma Sigma member for her excellence in the classroom. She maintained a 3.82 cumulative grade point average during her four years at Marshall.
The Arlington, Texas native plans to pursue a MBA degree in her home state.
This is the second year the award has been named for Dr. Castaňeda, who served Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and Faculty Representative before he passed away in November 2008. The conference annually presents the $4,000 Postgraduate Scholarship awards to graduates as selected by the C-USA Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
