HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Radford's assistant track & field coach Willie D. Johnson will rejoin the Thundering Herd as he has been named the Marshall University track & field assistant coach. Johnson was an MU graduate assistant from 2005 through 2008.

The four-time All-ACC selection and two-time All-American triple jumper from Florida State will oversee the MU sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers. Johnson takes the place of former coach Rod Cowan.

"Willie did a fantastic job with the jumpers while he was here as a graduate assistant," Head Coach Jeff Small said. "He is one of the best recruiters I have ever been around and I am excited to have him back on our staff full-time."

Johnson leaves Radford after compiling an impressive resume in just two years. While with the Highlanders, Johnson coached two Big South conference champions in the triple jump, a conference champion and a school record holder in the long jump, a conference runner-up and school record holder in the high jump, along with guiding his multi-event athlete to the 2010 Big South Indoor Freshman of the Year.

As a graduate assistant with the Herd, Johnson helped current school record holder Andrea Jackson and Teniqua Sutton qualify for the East Regional triple jump in 2008. Johnson saw Sikeetha Shepard-Hall earn C-USA second-team long jump honors in 2006, along with Kristin Smith earning second-team accolades in 2008 for the high jump.

Johnson graduated from Florida State in 2005 with a bachelors of science in physical education and earned his master's degree in athletic administration from Marshall University in 2008.
