HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Heather Moore recorded a pool record time in the 1650 Freestyle to headline the Marshall University swimming and diving team, but it was not enough as the Thundering Herd fell to Ohio 132-87 Tuesday night.

"Heather, as well as our other distance swimmers, has developed tremendous focus over the past month," said head coach Russell Hunt. "She was prepared today and it showed in a very smart, consistent mile-long swim."

Moore set the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium record in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 17:21.31. The performance is the fifth-best this season in Conference USA and good enough to place her second all-time in the Marshall record books.

Also with impressive finishes were Sarah Kay, who was tops in the 100 Butterfly with a mark of 58.98 and Lauren Tarka, who finished first in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:08.89. Vera Niemeyer recorded a second-place finish in the 100 Backstroke, punching in at 1:00.85.

"As the players continue to slowly work down from the intensity of winter training, more and more of them will start finding the mental mindset needed for our last few competitions," said Hunt. "Today's meet with Ohio was yet another step in our push for the summit."

The Herd will host Vanderbilt (Jan. 29) and James Madison (Feb. 5) in its final two regular-season meets before heading to the Conference USA Championships starting on Feb. 23 in Houston, Texas.
